Welcoming Sanjay Narayanaswamy to the KLI

We are pleased to welcome our new Writing-up Fellow, Sanjay Narayanaswamy, to the KLI.

Sanjay holds a Bachelor´s degree in Biotechnology (SRM University, India) and a Master´s degree in Evolutionary Systems Biology from the University of Vienna. He is currently a PhD student at the University of Vienna in Prof. U. Technau´s lab.

In his PhD project “Notch Coordinates Concurrent Germ Layer and Axial Polarity Self-Organization in Cnidarian Gastruloids” Sanjay investigates how initially dispersed organizer cells break symmetry and coordinate with other germ layers to reestablish axial polarity and proper germ layer topology in Nematostella gastruloids. The project aims to shed light on how ancestral regulatory networks governing morphogenesis likely enabled the diversification of metazoan body plans.

Sanjay will be at the KLI from 15 January to 14 July 2026.

Here’s wishing Sanjay a warm welcome and a fruitful time at the KLI.
