David Cortés García

David Cortés-García is a philosopher of biology with a background in both biology (University of Salamanca, 2018) and philosophy of science (University of the Basque Country, 2019). He has a particular interest in theoretical biology, organism-centered approaches, and evolutionary developmental biology. He obtained his PhD at the University of the Basque Country in 2025. His research focuses on the conceptual foundations of biological reproduction, challenging prevailing models that tend to reduce reproduction to an auxiliary concept for explaining heredity, biological organization, or adaptive evolution. Instead, his research treats reproduction as a phenomenon that deserves close theoretical and philosophical examination, developing a view of reproduction as a relational, developmental, and organismal process. With a strong emphasis on the ontological dimension of reproduction, his current project explores the implications of this approach for evolutionary theory, developmental biology, and philosophy of medicine.
